The full learner course.
Learning to drive in York.
The area is good for learners, having some nice quiet nursery areas dotted around the city and also some good, more challenging areas leading to fast dual carraigeway and open rural roads. In general terms a good area to learn in with enough variation in both road type and traffic situations to prepare you well for your future driving. A very friendly test centre team will put you quickly at ease when it comes to your big day, your test will be a demonstration rather than a test, I will give you the skill and knowledge to approach your test with confidence, you will simply demonstrate your ability to drive safely and responsibly, and probably like the vast majority of my pupils, be successful at your first attempt.
It is better to have a routine to your learning, For example, same days, same times every week. This is an advantage to both yourself and your instructor.
Generally, it has been found that pupils taking two hour lessons learn at a faster pace than those taking single hour lessons. These are some of the reasons why this is so. A correctly structured lesson should start with a recap of the previous lesson; this will confirm that learning took place. Then an introduction to the present lesson. A lesson should end with a short debrief and confirmation, and a look forward to the next lesson. Any writing up of record cards, booking or confirming of future lessons should also be done at the end of the lesson. This all takes time and is part of your lesson. In addition to this there may be time traveling to suitable areas to teach especially when at the very early stages or when teaching manoeuvres. Add all this time together and it may be up to 20 minutes. Although necessary, and part of the lesson. It does eat into your learning time.
Working this out over a period of time, it can be found that four two hour lessons will contain the same learning time as ten one hour lessons. That could be a considerable saving in lesson fees over the complete course. It is also more suitable for the instructor as longer lessons mean less idle time traveling from one client to the next. Regardless of whom you decide to learn with, two hours are better than one for both parties.
